It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Like the majority of people out there, I just LOVE Christmas time! My reasons though are atypical of what the season has become in society. As touché as it sounds, Santa and shopping aside, I love the reason for the season! To me it has always been about church and family. This is the second year we have had a new member in our little family to share Christmas, with Rowen being born in 2009 and Madeline in October. Last year I had the great idea of making our stockings. Now with no prior sewing experience I have to admit they are very homely looking… but hey, that is what makes them special right???:)I do have to admit that with all of the changes in the last few months I failed to remember to make a new stocking for little Maddy! The only thing that “saved” me in this situation is that this is the year we spend Christmas in California. So next year I need to sew her one, and while I am at it I will just make an additional 2 to be prepared for the future (No honey, I am not making 3 or 4 more! Haha!).

As you know, Christmas decorations can be very pricey. So we have an understanding in our home that each year we will add just a few little things to our collection. This year we bought stocking holders for the mantle and of course some new ornaments. What many people don’t know is that ornaments have an extremely special place in my heart. Every year I get so excited to put the ornaments on the tree at my moms house. You would think at 27 years old the nostalgia would wear off, but if anything it is stronger than ever! Each one has a “story” and a special meaning. Some are falling apart and others are brand new, but each is very special. Needless to say, decorating the tree takes quite some time as we reminisce in the process. Well that is how I want it to be at our house. Of course we bought a “tub” of unbreakable ornaments to fill the void in the meantime, but we are slowly adding to the Verbeek Family Collection.:)This year we added Maddy’s 1st Christmas  from the Winnie-the-Pooh Collection (Rowen had last years!) and the new Family Picture ornament. Of course we got a few special ornaments from family as well. I look forward to the day when our children visit with their babies and each has a story to share about their memories decorating the family tree!

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and you too have some very special memories made in the process!:)
